The working part of this month is rapidly approaching its end and at Laptops4Learning we are busy fitting in what we can before the holiday period arrives.
The ten laptops we donated for Christmas presents for disadvantaged children in the Fylde have now been delivered and we are grateful to Community Group and Fylde Rugby Community Foundation for coordinating this effort to make a better Christmas for these young people. The devices were repurposed from tech made available by Elysium Healthcare.
We have also donated ten laptops this week through Rosanda McGrath to Refugee Connections, which helps Afghanistan refugees in London bridging hotels. Rosanda has also coordinated getting more devices sponsored by individuals to increase the total so far to 20 laptops which were delivered today. These will start being distributed to those in need in the bridging hotels this weekend. A higher-end device was donated by Miriam Margolyes, who has taken a keen interest in the work of Laptops4Learning, and particularly the refugee part of our work, as some of her own ancestors were refugees from Poland and Belarus. We are delighted by her support for Laptops4Learning.
This week the Prince’s Trust very kindly donated two large boxes of nicely wrapped Christmas presents for children. We were able to pass these on to our partners at KidsOut, a charity that supports children living in refuges, who have had to flee domestic abuse. KidsOut are delighted to be able to distribute these presents to children for whom they will make all the difference this Christmas.
While we worry about the possibility of our own Christmas celebrations having to be scaled back because of COVID restrictions, it is good to remember others for whom life is a real struggle all year round. Let’s all do what we can to make a difference to those in need this Christmas.
